The Childcare System is fueled by the labor of women, especially women of color, who are under-compensated and undervalued. Childcare centers struggle with providing high-quality care because they cannot afford to pay the competitive wages necessary to recruit and retain qualified teachers/educators. WFMD is particularly interested in:
- Childcare workforce pipeline and career path development
- supporting solutions to limited economic mobility in a female-dominated sector with low wages and truncated career path
- supporting the leadership development of women in the childcare workforce
- supporting mentorship, business training, and on-the-job/internship educational opportunities that encourage young women to enter the field and assist them in navigating it.
- Organizing and supporting advocacy efforts of childcare stakeholders at the local level
- supporting the development of networks of parents, owners/providers and teachers/educators.
- supporting convenings and coalitions of parents, owner/providers and teachers/educators throughout Miami-Dade County.
