The Community Health Fund is comprised of several funds including the Angel Fund, the Community Endowment Fund, the Fraeda Dubin Endowment Fund, the Homeless Services Endowment Fund, the Pat Denny Wellness Fund, the Hunger Express Poverty Fund, the Mendocino County Endowment for Community Health Projects, the Moorehead Endowment Fund for Seniors, and the Poverty Program Fund.

Funding Priorities

Funding priorities include, but are not limited to:

  • Client services that assist individuals with basic needs such as food, shelter, clothing, necessary household items, communication, sanitation, health, employment, and education, especially those that allow seniors to “age in place.”
  • Patient navigation or case management services that assist individuals manage complex needs.
  • Short-term needs for individuals that cannot be met by other public or private programs with the goal of helping them move forward in their lives such as medical transportation, durable medical equipment, or therapeutic aids.
  • Equipment and technology (software, apps, or website development) that will allow an organization to more efficiently deliver services.
  • Educational programming around substance abuse prevention and treatment.

Funding Information

  • Total Funding Available: $70,000;
  • Grant range $1,000-$7,500.

Target Populations

The target populations includes adults over 65; low-income families and youth; low-access residents; individuals with underlying physical, emotional, or intellectual conditions or disabilities; veterans; undocumented migrants; LGBTQIAA+; unhoused or housing insecure; Native Americans; Latinx and other communities of color; and people who have historically lacked access to opportunities.

Eligibility Criteria  

All applicant organizations must:

  • Serve residents of Mendocino County or applicants not headquartered in Mendocino County must ensure that all grant dollars requested are spent within the County.
  • Be legally chartered in California and in possession of a determination letter from the IRS declaring the organization a public charity that is exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3); or be a school district, tribe, or special district (e.g., community services, recreation, fire protection); or have an aligned mission with a fiscal sponsor.
  • Have one year of operational history after receiving charitable status.
  • Conduct business without discrimination on the basis of race, color, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, national origin, or religious affiliation.
  • Eligible project expenses may include indirect or administration costs.
