First Episode Psychosis Treatment for Transition Age Youth (District of Columbia)

The Government of the District of Columbia, Department of Behavioral Health, (Adult and Transition Age Youth Administration) is soliciting an application from the qualified organization to implement a First Episode Psychosis (FEP) Treatment Program for Transition Age Youth.

Details:

The purpose of the FEP Treatment Program for Transition Age will be designed to change the long-term prognosis for TAY coping with schizophrenia by providing an early and effective treatment intervention program for individuals who have experienced their first episode of psychosis.

Funding Information

  • Anticipated Amount Available: $400,000.00.
  • The anticipated performance and funding period is October 27, 2023 to September 30, 2024.

Eligibility Criteria

Mental Health Rehabilitation Service (MHRS) providers that serve District residents aged 16-25 years old.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Eligible entities who can apply for grant funds under this RFA are DBH Certified Mental Health Rehabilitative Services (MHRS) Providers and/ or all certified DBH-Core Service Agencies (CSA), with experience in providing behavioral health services to youth and young adults ages 16-25 years of age who have been diagnosed with serious mental illness (SMI).
  • The selected provider should have knowledge of diagnoses that could lead to psychosis including but not limited to schizophrenia, schizophreniform disorder, brief psychotic disorder, bipolar disorder, delusional disorder, drug-induced psychosis., major depressive disorder with psychotic features, schizoaffective disorder, and should be able to document treatment structures within their agency that can address these diagnoses.
  • The selected provider must have the ability to conduct clinical assessments, psychoeducation for individuals and family members, cognitive and behavioral interventions, academic and vocational support, psychopharmacology, and medical management to include the side effects of medications (e.g.: monitoring for metabolic syndrome with antipsychotic use).
  • The selected provider should have the ability to provide community support and community-based Interventions. They will be able to offer counseling case management and; deliver community-based education and outreach.
  • The selected provider should also be able to hire young adult peers who will support the clinical team by helping to engage young adults in services and educate the community. MHRS and CSAs providers previously trained and delivering Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Transition Independence Program (TIP), and Individual Placement and Support (IPS) are encouraged to apply.
