Community Food Bank’s Thriving Communities Grant (Arizona)

Dated: November 23, 2023

The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona is seeking applications for the Thriving Communities Grant to support organizations, collectives, and mutual aid groups in addressing various aspects of food security, community health, social justice, and the root-causes of hunger.

Donor Name: Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona

State: Arizona

County: Cochise County (AZ), Graham County (AZ), Greenlee County (AZ), Pima County (AZ), Santa Cruz County (AZ)

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 12/13/2023

Size of the Grant: $10,000 to $100,000

Grant Duration: Grant Duration Not Mentioned

Details:

The grant can fund a wide array of projects, including infrastructure, supplies, training, community organizing, educational projects, pilot projects, evaluation efforts, and more. The primary goal of this funding is to build community, address disparities with dignity, and change the conditions that cause food insecurity and poverty in line with CFB’s mission to build healthy, hunger-free communities.

Funding Priority

  • Thriving Communities Grant will prioritize funding based on key criteria, including:
    • the clarity of the project’s goals and desired impact,
    • the extent the project is led by or centers the people or community it’s meant to benefit, and
    • the overall distribution of funds across 5-county service area in both urban and rural areas
  • To be successful, your proposal should address a specific need in the community and show how the project’s benefits will continue even after the initial investment. They won’t fund one-time expenses like food purchases unless they are tied to capacity-building or a clearly defined health disparity. Your project should be completed within a year, but if needed, you can request an extension

Funding Information

  • Up to $5,000: Less extensive application and reporting process.
  • Up to $20,000: For individual organization applicants.
  • Up to $60,000: For collaborations of 2 or more organizations. Collaborative projects bring together various stakeholders as part of the proposed project, and the proposal must include Letters of Commitment from each collaborating organization.

Eligibility Criteria

Funding is open to organizations and groups conducting projects in Cochise, Graham, Greenlee, Pima, and Santa Cruz Counties, AZ that are either:

  • A 501c3 non-profit, church, school, mutual aid, collective, or tribal organization.
  • An organization, mutual aid group, collective, or tribal organization that is fiscally sponsored by a 501c3 non-profit.
  • A group working to benefit their community that does not have its own 501c3 status or a fiscal sponsor. If an applicant group does not have 501c3 status or an existing fiscal sponsor, they may apply for CFB’s Avanzando LLC to be a fiscal sponsor. However, due to limited capacity, fiscal sponsorship through Avanzando is not guaranteed. Fiscal sponsorship requests will be evaluated on the requesting groups’ needs and barriers to funding.
