The County of San Diego is piloting a new Equity Impact Grant (EIG) program in partnership with The Nonprofit Institute at the University of San Diego (NPI) to address community feedback about the challenges that small, grassroots, and minority-led organizations experience when applying for government contracts and philanthropic funding.

The purpose of this new program is to advance the mission of the County of San Diego’s Office of Equity and Racial Justice by supporting 10 nonprofit organizations over a period of 12 months.
The EIG program will focus on supporting community-driven efforts and community-based organizations working in the social and racial justice fields in the following areas:
- education (early childhood through higher/continuing education)
- civic engagement and movement building
- arts, media & culture
- housing, community development & mobility
- restorative justice & alternatives to incarceration
- health and healing
- financial literacy & economic development
- food systems and environmental justice
Funding Information
Each year, the EIG program will support 10 qualified San Diego-based social impact organizations/initiatives by with $100,000 in general operating support grants.
Eligibility Criteria
Grants are accepting applications from new applicants, as well as current/previous grantees funded through other County grant programs that are in San Diego County, California. This program is primarily intended to support small, local nonprofits with 501(c)(3) status and budgets of $500,000 or less.
You’re invited and encouraged to apply if:
- Your organization has 501c(3) status or your program is fiscally sponsored by a 501c(3) organization.
- Your 501c(3) organization is based and serves communities in the Greater San Diego County (including all tribal and rural communities).
- Your organization’s mission and/or program(s) align with funding priorities (see above).
- Your organization’s staff and board have lived experience with and are representative of historically marginalized and/or currently disadvantaged, underinvested, or disenfranchised communities that your organization serves
- Your organization is helping to build power and/or advance life outcomes among communities prioritized in this grant program
- Your operating budget is under $500,000 and/or personnel of under five full-time employees. Please note that organizations with larger operating budgets and staff are invited to apply and may be considered for funding if they meet other eligibility requirements.
