This program builds upon a two-part webinar series of the same name that, in FY23, helped federal, state, county, local, and tribal correctional agencies to grow their capacity to provide civility training for their leadership and line staff.
The virtual instructor-led training (VILT) and the e-course that this cooperative agreement seeks to create are meant to more fully open the correctional world to the idea of the possible positive implications that intentionally promoting civility could bring to the correctional work environment.
Goals
The goal of this program is to open the correctional world to the idea of the possible positive effects that intentionally promoting civility could bring to the correctional work environment. In order to accomplish the aforementioned goal of this cooperative agreement, the agreement seeks to produce a quality virtual instructor-led training (VILT) course, e-course and supplemental course materials.
Objectives
Providing participants with an interactive VILT training experience, an e-course training opportunity, and supplemental training materials that have practical application to their current and future professional development in the following areas:
- Tools to aid in bringing more civility awareness to the correctional work environment.
- Consistent educational tools for training staff in civility/incivility and the possible positive effects of having more civility in the correctional workplace.
- A VILT course to introduce and then build upon a base of knowledge for correctional workers and correctional leadership about having more civility in the correctional workplace.
- An e-course that will aid leadership teams in continuing to build civility into their correctional environments over the years.
Funding Information
NIC expects to make one award for as much as $200,000.00 for a 12-month project period, beginning on March 29, 2024. Requests for amounts more than a total of $200,000.00, including direct and indirect costs will not be considered.
Eligibility Criteria
- NIC invites applications from nonprofit organizations (including faith-based, community, and tribal organizations), for-profit organizations (including tribal for-profit organizations), and institutions of higher education (including tribal institutions of higher education). Recipients, including for-profit organizations, must agree to waive any profit or fee for services. Foreign governments, international organizations, and non-governmental international organizations/institutions are not eligible to apply. Proof of 501(c) (3) status as determined by the Internal Revenue Service or an authorizing tribal resolution is required.
- NIC welcomes applications that involve two or more entities; however, one eligible entity must be the applicant and the others must be proposed as subrecipients. The applicant must be the entity with primary responsibility for administering the funding and managing the entire program. Only one (1) application will be accepted from a submitting organization.
- NIC may elect to make awards for applications submitted under this solicitation in future fiscal years, dependent on the merit of the applications and on the availability of appropriations.
