Details:

The BRAVE/R Together project is a collaboration of nonprofits, public officials, community leaders and the private sector working to support neighborhoods in 76104, to the east of I-35W, that experience disparities in education, healthcare, housing and unemployment.

Key activities for the BRAVE/R Together project include an equity audit, convening leaders and residents for cohorts focused on racial inequities, building team capacity for community conversations, creating a community grant program, building data and training participants on how to use data to achieve equitable outcomes.

They invite organizations and individuals working to address racial inequities in 76104 to apply for grant funds up to $10,000.

Key Areas

The grants will be focused on the project’s four key areas:

  • Business/Employment: BRAVE/R Together is striving to build on the legacy Black and Brown entrepreneurs and business owners have developed in 76104 and provide well-paying jobs for the community.
  • Education: Grants will support educators and those advocating for children and families, with the goal of addressing inequities in the school system such as the need for affordable and accessible afterschool programs.
  • Healthcare: 76104 has the lowest life expectancy (66.7 years) in Texas despite being the home of Fort Worth’s Medical District. BRAVE/R Together seeks to improve health outcomes in the community via nutrition, mental health and physical well-being.
  • Housing: An affordable place to live is the foundation of community. These grant funds can be used to help residents establish roots and thrive in 76104 such as assisting families with finding affordable housing and financing.

Criteria

Entities that meet the following criteria are eligible to apply:

  • Grassroots, social enterprises, or established 501(c)(3) organizations working in 76104 to address racial inequities in the following sectors: business/employment, education, food/nutrition, healthcare, and housing.
  • Funds may be used for a variety of purposes including specific projects, programming, capacity building, etc.
  • Funds are restricted to entities offering direct services to the people of 76104.
  • Grantees will be required to track and report progress towards goals. Failure to submit timely reports may result in suspension or loss of funding.

Scoring Criteria

  • BRAVE/R™ Together will engage a review and selection committee of various stakeholders across 76104. The grantees will be selected by the community representation of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and scopes of work who are all invested in creating equitable solutions for the people of 76104;
  • People of color serving in executive leadership (10 points);
  • People of color on Board of Directors (if applicable) (5 points);
  • Organization is based and rooted in 76104 (primarily serves 76104) (10 points);
  • Compelling case made that fund will advance addressing racial inequities in 76104 through the priority areas listed above (40 points);
  • Clearly defined outline of how the grant will impact the people of 76104 (15 points);
  • Defined measures of project success indicated (10 points);
  • Budget clearly defines how funds will be used and aligns with the proposal (10 points). Y access a sample budget template.
