Detail:

The goals of engaging and collaborating with community organizations in the Equity in OC Initiative are to:

  • Address health inequities and social determinants of health through collaboration and partnership
  • Overcome inequitable access to opportunities, resources, and support services for targeted and prioritized populations in Orange County
  • Support engagement by various diverse organizations in Orange County and to address systemic health inequities facing prioritized impacted communities
  • Provide venues for community voice in identifying and determining solutions and priorities in addressing health inequities in Orange County

Funding Information

  • $10,000 per year to 160 organizations

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for funding, an organization must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a 501(c) (3)* nonprofit organization (*or fiscally sponsored) based in Orange County and provide direct services to Orange County residents
  • Must not discriminate based upon age, gender, gender identity, race, disability, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, or an individual’s ability to pay
  • Invest in a change process that is dynamic and enhances multi-sector engagement, relationships, capacity, and intention for change
  • Directly serve one or more of the CDC’s impacted communities of interest, which include, but are not limited to:
    • American Indian, Alaskan Native, Native American, or Indigenous community
    • Asian or Asian American community
    • Black or African American community
    • Latino, Hispanic, Chicano, or Latin American community Middle Eastern or North African community
    • Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander community
    •  Multiracial or multi-ethnic community
    • Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer (LGBQ+) community
    • Members of gender minorities (transgender, non-binary, or nonconforming)
    • Houseless or unhoused community
    • Mental health and recovery community
    • Older adult community (65+)
    • Youth community (ages 18-24) Veteran community
    • Individuals who are adversely affected by persistent poverty or inequality
    • Individuals who experienced under-employment
    • Individuals who are non English speaking
    • Individuals with disabilities
    • Members from mixed immigration status households
    • Members of religious minorities
    • Diverse countywide geographic representation (by zip code)

To ensure equitable participation from cross-sector community partners, the initiative encourages participation from organizations with the following representation/makeup:

  • Black-, Indigenous-, or People of Color-led (BIPOC-led)
  • Women-led
  • Minority-led
  • LGBTQ+-led
  • Grassroots/volunteer-led
  • Organizations whose leadership and board members reflect the community they serve and/or represent
  • Organizations serving historically unserved or underserved communities

To ensure equitable and representative participation, organizations from the following sectors are excluded from applying for these funds:

  • For-profit entities
  • Hospital and healthcare systems
  • Public entities, including but not limited to:
    • School districts
    • Colleges and universities
    • Academic institutions
    • Local government department, agencies, and jurisdictions
