The LA Plaza de Cultural y Artes (LA Plaza) Eastside Arts Initiative (EAI) Grant Program offers grants from $2,500 to $25,000 to artists and arts organizations serving in Eastern Los Angeles County providing programming in the visual and performing arts.

Priorities

The Eastside Arts Initiative (EAI) plays an integral role in the development of the Eastern LA County arts community by providing grant funding that makes a long-lasting impact while supporting local artists and arts organizations develop innovative work. And, serves as a catalyst, collaboration-builder and resource for furthering the arts in Eastern LA County.

Grant proposals are scored based on the following funding priorities:

  • Significance
    • Program is beneficial, provides long-lasting value and fills a need in the community served
  • Suitability
    • Budget and goals are adequate for successful expected outcomes and for establishing program sustainability
  • Approach:
    • Implementation and outreach plans are well-thought-out, and applicant is well prepared to execute program purpose and goals
  • Distinction/Innovation
    • Program concept and approaches are creative and innovative offering participants and/or audiences unique experiences
  • EAI Partner
    • Program helps the EAI further the arts in the Eastern Los Angeles county region and helps build collaborations for maximizing resources and opening pathways to opportunities in the visual and performing arts for program participants and/or community served

Funding Information

  • Individual Artists: $2,500 to $10,000 [fiscal agent required]
  • Arts Organization: $10,000 to $25,000 [must be a 501C3 and may not apply through fiscal agent]

Eligible Arts Disciplines (commercial printers, advertising/marketing do not qualify)

  • Creative Crafts: Contemporary or Cultural/Folk Art
  • Dance
  • Film
  • Literary Arts
  • Digital and Media Arts
  • Graphic Arts
  • Music
  • Photography
  • Technical Arts
  • Theatre
  • Visual Arts
  • Arts Trades: (i.e., recording engineer, production assistance, set design, costume design, make-up artists, etc.)

Eligibility Criteria

  • Grant proposals are not accepted from schools or government entities
  • Artists and Arts organizations may submit proposals for after-school community arts programming in collaboration with schools or government entities
  • Grant funds must be utilized directly as proposed within one year of grant award or returned to the LA Plaza EAI by May 1, 2022
  • Artists must be 18 years of age or older, and may only apply with a fiscal agent that is an established 501c3 non-profit arts organization that is able to provide: IRS determination letter, IRS 990 and annual budget
  • Artists must have sustainable creative work, and submit resume summarizing minimum two years of artistic work history/accomplishments
  • Arts organizations may apply if an established 501c3 non-profit and able to provide: IRS determination letter, IRS 990 and annual budget
  • Applicants must serve in the EAI service area communities in Greater Eastern LA County from Westlake/Rampart, Downtown Los Angeles to East Los Angeles, Northeast Los Angeles, Pomona Valley, San Gabriel Valley and the Southeast/Gateway communities of: Bell, Bell Gardens, Commerce, Cudahy, Huntington Park, Maywood, Pico Rivera, South Gate, Vernon, Walnut Park unincorporated
  • Public art projects must be permanent installations and include programming component – temporary public art projects are not accepted
  • If grant is approved for a Public Art Project, grant recipient must provide: Letter signed by property owner (and municipality if applicable) confirming approval of project specifications and site location
  • Grant closing reports to the EAI are due two months following conclusion of program
  • Proposals will not be accepted from applicants who have previously received an EAI grant that has not been closed and/or grant closing report has not been submitted to the EAI
  • Proposals must be thoroughly complete with all required information and documents – all attachments must be titled with: applicant name, date, page number/s
