The mission of the Trent L. Garrett Fellowship is to support diverse professionals to advance careers in real estate and community development. The two-year fellowship program will enable recipients to develop real estate experience, learn about the development sector and financing tools, and build leadership skills.

Benefit and Opportunities

During the course of the fellowship, Fellows will be considered full-time employees of Intend Indiana.  Fellows will receive a salary of $40,000 per year and a benefits package that includes medical/vision/dental insurance, matching 401(k), and paid time off.

Fellows will work with the Lending team and the Real Estate Development team of Intend to develop affordable housing and gain knowledge of lending operations.  Fellows may also have the opportunity to work with partners as directed. A fundamental goal of the Fellowship is to provide each Fellow with a realistic and comprehensive experience of the community development field.  Fellows will attend networking events, be offered mentorship opportunities, and have access to industry training and certifications. Fellows can expect to develop affordable housing strategies, assist with providing access to credit to business and low-to-moderate-income households, conduct market research, perform due diligence on projects, review and provide input on development plans and specifications, research best practices, contribute to marketing materials and prepare presentations.

Eligibility Criteria

Every two years, the Trent L. Garrett Fellowship is awarded to a highly motivated young professional who is a member of historically underrepresented ethnic and/or racial minority groups. Fellows should have an interest in real estate development, finance, community economic development, and/or neighborhood revitalization. Fellows will serve as full-time employees of Intend Indiana for up to two years.
