2023 City of Long Beach CDBG Neighborhood Grant Program – California

The City of Long is seeking proposals/applications from established Long Beach neighborhood associations to complete neighborhood public service programs/projects with assistance from the CDBG Neighborhood Grant Program (CDBG NGP).

Details:

The goal of CDBG NGP is to fund new public service projects in CDBG-eligible lower-income areas to improve neighborhood conditions, collaboration and revitalization efforts.

CDBG NGP funds can assist a variety of public service projects focused on one or more of the following: blight reduction, financial or employment training, crime awareness, fair housing, health services, and/or mental health services in CDBG-eligible areas to improve neighborhood conditions and revitalization efforts. Applicants are encouraged to be creative. Eligible public service projects must have support of the neighborhood organization’s governing body and the affected neighborhood. Examples of projects include:

  • Providing backpacks and school supplies for local students
  • Hosting a food distribution or holiday meal for local families
  • Hosting a financial literacy class for residents
  • Installing a mural on private property
  • Hosting a literacy fair to provide books to local children
  • Providing winter coats to children at a local school
  • Hosting a neighborhood block party or culturally affirming celebrations
  • Hosting a vegetable garden workshop at a local school
  • Hosting an employment, health education, or mental health resource fair
  • Providing a physical activity engagement project
  • Conducting parenting education and outreach
  • Hosting equity, inclusion and resiliency projects.

Funding Information

  • The maximum grant amount to any neighborhood association is $10,000 in goods and/or services per application.
  • All programs/projects need to be completed six (6) months from the date of the approval of the project selection.

Uses of funds

  • Funds can be used for goods and/or services to complete the desired program/project. Project management costs are not eligible for funding.
  • Projects on private property and/or that involve homeowners associations (HOAs) must have prior written approval at the time of application submittal.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible applicants must be formally established neighborhood organizations having designated officers, membership rosters and a history of neighborhood involvement.
  • Detailed cost records and program/project completion within CDBG-eligible will be required and is subject to approval by Housing and Neighborhood Services Bureau staff.
  • The grant funds will be disbursed directly to neighborhood associations who must have a tax ID number or fiscal agent.
