2023 Claude Moore Community Builders Program – Virginia

Dated: April 7, 2023

The Loudoun Youth Inc. is inviting applications for its Claude Moore Community Builders Program to provide rising 10th-12th grade students with opportunities to gain valuable skills while engaging in extensive volunteer work in the communities.

Donor Name: Loudoun Youth Inc. (LYI)

State: Virginia

County: Loudoun County (VA)

Type of Grant: Program

Deadline: 04/30/2023

Grant Duration: 10 months

Details:

Mission

The mission of the organization is to coordinate community resources to assist in the development of youth programs and to create leadership opportunities for young people. LYI supports and develops inclusive programs that provide Loudoun teens with positive out-of-school activities to help them become confident and contributing members of the community

The Claude Moore Community Builders (CMCB) program has been connecting Loudoun County teens with meaningful volunteer opportunities at local non-profit organizations since 2007. CMCB participants (a.k.a “Builders”) are matched with non-profits where they serve as volunteer interns. Builders are also required to attend CMCB training sessions where they learn professional skills they will use throughout their lives. Topics covered during these trainings include communication, leadership, collaboration, and mental health. Applicants to this widely recognized, teen volunteer and leadership program must be rising 10th-12th grade Loudoun County residents.

During the 10 month program (June-March), participants (a.k.a “Builders”) are expected to complete 100 hours of service. Those 100 hours consist of three components: Builders are matched with non-profits where they serve a minimum of 50 hours as volunteer interns; they volunteer 30 hours with other Builders at group service events i.e. the Ryan Bartel Foundation’s annual 5k Color Run, Special Olympics tournaments, river clean-ups, etc.; and they attend 20 hours of CMCB’s interactive, professional development trainings on topics such as communication, leadership, team-building, and mental health.

During their time in the CMCB program, Builders develop valuable professional skills and gain real-world experience but the best part is that they accomplish these goals while serving their communities. Builders who volunteer 100 hours or more may be eligible to receive the President’s Volunteer Service Award.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be rising 10th-12th grade Loudoun County residents.
