Details:

The purpose of this program is to decrease maternal and child morbidity and mortality associated with pre-and post-natal environmental exposures. One cooperative agreement will be funded to implement and support a national network of state and/or regional teratogen1 information service (TIS) counseling centers. This program is intended to be a resource for individuals of reproductive age, their partners, and health care providers, with an emphasis on underserved populations.

Program Goal

The goal of MCEHN is to improve access to accurate, comprehensible information related to teratogen and environmental exposures that facilitate evidence-based health care decision-making.

Program Objectives

  • By August 2027, increase by 10 percent from baseline the average number of responses per month to one-on-one counseling inquiries from pregnant or breastfeeding individuals, individuals planning to become pregnant, partners, and/or health providers.
  • By August 2027, increase by 30 percent from baseline the number of responses to counseling inquiries from individuals who are from underserved populations.
  • By August 2027, increase by 20 percent from baseline the number of individuals receiving information materials through various vehicles (e.g., fact sheets, podcasts, social media).

Funding Information

HRSA estimates approximately $1,200,000 to be available annually to fund one recipient. The actual amount available will not be determined until enactment of the final FY 2022 federal appropriation. You may apply for a ceiling amount of up to $1,200,000 total cost (includes both direct and indirect, facilities and administrative costs) per year.

Funding Period

The period of performance is September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2027 (5 years).

Eligibility Information

Eligible applicants include any domestic public or private entity, including an Indian tribe or tribal organization (as those terms are defined at 25 U.S.C. § 450b), is eligible to apply. 51a.3(a). Domestic faith-based and community-based organizations are eligible to apply.
