Grants to address Mental health Issues in Colorado

Dated: August 7, 2023

The Recovery Foundation is seeking applications to support organizations and communities in the Greater Denver area through values-driven philanthropy.

Donor Name: The Recovery Foundation

State: Colorado

County: Selected Counties

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 08/31/2023

Size of the Grant: up to $250,000

Details:

The Recovery Foundation’s mission is to support other publicly supported organizations that are organized and operated to address mental health issues focused on substance abuse in Colorado including education, prevention, and treatment; charitable organizations that provide low-income housing in Colorado; and The Denver Foundation.

Core Funding Priorities

The primary focus of TRF grant making is in the following areas:

  • Charitable organizations that are organized and operated to address mental health issues focused on substance abuse in the State of Colorado, including, access to education, prevention, or treatment programs to individuals suffering from substance use illness.
  • Charitable organization that provide low-income housing in the State of Colorado in a charitable manner.

Funding Information

Grants of up to $250,000 will be considered. Grants over $25,000 are considered major grants. While not required, the preferred method of making major gifts is either through real estate investment or through “matching funds.” Real estate investment can be in the form of an equity grant. Matching funds encourages the receiving non-profit organization to solicit other gifts, while inspiring greater confidence in other donors, potentially greatly enhancing TRF’s impact.

Eligibility Criteria

  • All grant recipients must be charitable organizations recognized as tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended, and as a public charity.
  • Grants will be given to organizations that demonstrate that they have competent management who have a history of delivering results in an effective and cost efficient manner. Levels of overhead expenses will be taken into consideration.
  • Grant recipients must have the ability and willingness to measure and report results.
  • Currently, TRF is focused on funding strong organizations in the Denver Metro area.

Grant Limitations

  • TRF does not approve grants for regular and ongoing operating support.
  • TRF does not approve grants for contingencies, deficits or debt reduction.
  • TRF typically awards an agency only one grant per year. Grant recipients must re-apply each year.
  • TRF does not award grants to individuals or for-profit organizations.
  • Funding is to be used to directly meet specific needs within the community, so TRF does not support fundraising event sponsorships or teams.
  • Grants will not be made for religious purposes but may be made to faith-based organizations for the non-religious programs offered to the broader community. Characteristics of eligible programs include: a program that is located in a house of worship but not associated with the house of worship; program is available to people of all faiths and/or non-believers; program abstains from religious worship, instruction or recruitment as part of the grant funded program.
