The Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh is seeking applications for its Neighborhood Initiatives Fund to assists nonprofit and community-based organizations with neighborhood-scale projects in commercial corridors that improve quality of life and maintain the neighborhood as a desirable place to live.

Details:

The Neighborhood Initiatives Fund Program (NIF or the Program), administered by the URA’s Business Solutions Unit, is designed to provide grants to:

  • Help unlock the economic and placemaking potential within City of Pittsburgh neighborhood commercial corridors.
  • Support vision-to-action community investment strategies that build a more equitable Pittsburgh; and
  • Formalize collaborative partnerships across the City of Pittsburgh (City).

Funding Information

There are two tiers of available grants:

  • Tier 1 grants will fund projects between $20,000 and $30,000.
  • Tier 2 grants will fund projects between $30,001 and $100,000.
  • A match is not required for Tier 1 grants. Tier 2 grants will require a 2:1 match;

Use of Funding

Proposals should identify the strategies and tactics associated with the proposed initiative and how the community will benefit from those strategic efforts. Potential tactics include but are not limited to:

  • Conceptual design and engineering.
  • Land remediation.
  • Vacant property activation.
  • Historic preservation.
  • Commercial district revitalization; and/or
  • Public realm improvements

Eligible Grantees

Nonprofit entities (including government agencies and those nonprofits with for-profit development partners).

Criteria

The Neighborhood Initiatives Fund (NIF) Program is intended to assist nonprofits (including government agencies) and community-based organizations with neighborhood-scale projects in commercial corridors. These projects include efforts that encourage neighborhood investment through vacant property reclamation and stewardship, historic preservation, brownfield redevelopment, public infrastructure improvements, and/or other eligible efforts. Nonprofit organizations with for-profit development partners are also eligible to apply.
