Nominations Open for Rest & Repair Awards (Washington)

Dated: May 31, 2023

The Washington Women’s Foundation seeks nominations of Black women who are leaders within the nonprofit sector and within the wider community.

Donor Name: Washington Women’s Foundation (WaWF)

State: Washington

County: All Counties

Type of Grant: Award

Deadline: 06/30/2023

Size of the Grant: $100,000

Details:

The Rest & Repair Awards are made in recognition and support of Black women leaders working in Washington State’s nonprofit sector. Washington Women’s Foundation (WaWF) will grant ten $100,000 Rest & Repair Awards to ten Black women who have made significant contributions to Washington communities. As investments in Black women and Black leadership, there are no restrictions on the use of Rest & Repair Awards.

The Rest and Repair Award is a joyous celebration and a genuine love letter to Black women nonprofit leaders in Washington State who have worked tirelessly – and often without acknowledgment – to make their state a better place for them all to live. They See You, Black Women of Washington. They see your work. They see your grace. They see your strength. They see your good judgment. They want to give you the resources you need to find some ease and heal. To Rest and Repair. To win.

WaWF made five Rest & Repair Awards in 2022 and will make another five in 2023. The application process is nomination based and nominations are open to the public. The Rest & Repair Cohort, made up of Black WaWF members and Black community members, designed the award and will decide the award recipients.

Be aware that they believe in Black excellence, and view leadership as far more than title or public acclamation. They particularly encourage nominations of Black women whose demonstrated efforts on behalf of their community has gone without wide recognition or acknowledgment in the wider world.

Eligibility Criteria

All nominees must be a Black or African American woman living in Washington State who leads, works for, or volunteers with a non-profit organization operating in Washington State; and be 18 years or older.

Notes to consider:

  • The nomination form consists of recommendations from both a Primary and a Secondary Nominator, as well as a resume and/or LinkedIn connection for each nominee.
  • While accepted, multiple nominations for the same candidate are not necessary, nor does it have any bearing on the final decisions.
  • Feel free to re-nominate people who were nominated previously but were not granted an award. We will not be reviewing past nominations.
  • Foundation recommend nominators coordinate with their nominees to ensure that the correct and most up-to-date contact information has been provided, and/or to work with your nominee to secure a second nominator.
  • Foundation receive hundreds of nominations for these awards. Despite their wish that it was not so the Rest and Repair Awards are highly competitive.
