Projects to improve Cultural Competence of Behavioral Health Workforce in Wisconsin

Dated: October 18, 2022

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) is accepting applications for grants to fund behavioral health workforce training.

Donor Name: Wisconsin Department of Health Services

State: Wisconsin

County: All Counties

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 11/07/2022

Size of the Grant: $100,000

Grant Duration: 1 year

Details:

The training must build provider capacity to deliver mental health and substance use services that respect and respond to the beliefs, practices, and needs of diverse communities.

This grant program seeks to ensure that when it comes to mental health and substance use disorder services, being treated with dignity and respect, and receiving care that is high quality and accessible, are things all Wisconsinites have the right to expect and are not the privileges of a few,” said DHS Secretary. “Services that are culturally appropriate are more welcoming and effective. This grant program will help eliminate the disparities that exist in their mental health and substance use services system.”

This effort has three main goals:

  • Promote and develop competencies within the behavioral health workforce in identifying unmet needs for mental health and substance use services among people from underserved communities.
  • Improve the service delivery system to expand access to people in underserved communities.
  • Develop behavioral health workforce competencies in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Funding Information

Wisconsin-based organizations that work directly with populations who face barriers in accessing care may apply for one of 10 grants of up to $100,000.

Grant Period

The contract period is expected to be one year (January 1, 2023, through December 31, 2023).
