Addressing Cancer Together is a United Way initiative establishing a regional cancer care network for uninsured individuals who are not able to access preventive screenings, diagnostics, and treatment in Williamson, Hays, and Bastrop counties. In the near term, ACT is shifting the breast cancer diagnosis trends by identifying cancers at earlier stages through expanded community outreach, mammogram screenings, biopsies, and treatment that increase survival rates and reduce the burden of healthcare costs on individuals, families, and communities.
This Request for Applications outlines the grant details for organizations to partner with United Way to build and support sustainable outreach efforts for Addressing Cancer Together efforts in Hays and Bastrop Counties with the goal of increasing breast cancer prevention awareness, screening mammograms, and diagnostics in the counties.
For Hays County Outreach
With support from Hays County and the City of San Marcos, through federal American Rescue Plan Act funds, United Way seeks to partner with organization(s) to build a sustainable community engagement initiative that supports outreach and education across the community with a focus on breast cancer, preventative screenings, diagnostics, and available resources.
To help reach this goal, applicants should propose activities that increase awareness and action, this can include, but is not limited to:
- Collaboration, relationship development and partnerships with traditional and non-traditional individuals and organizations including but not limited to local businesses, faith communities, education institutions, public or nonprofit organizations, key community leaders
- Targeted media and/or social media campaigns
- Door-to-door outreach
- Events
Applicants must propose work that reaches the following population:
- Individuals who live at or below 250% of the federal poverty level and are under insured or uninsured.
- Individuals who experience disparities in access to preventive screenings and diagnostic services including individuals with diverse linguistic, ethnic, and racial backgrounds.
- Individuals in the screening target age of 50+ as well as 40+ and at high risk for breast cancer.
For Bastrop County Outreach
With support from Bastrop County through federal American Rescue Plan Act funds, United Way seeks to partner with organizations to build on and/or augment a sustainable community engagement initiative that supports outreach and education across the community with a focus on breast cancer, preventative screenings, diagnostics, and available resources.
To help reach this goal, applicants should propose activities that increase awareness and action, this can include, but is not limited to:
- Collaboration, relationship development and partnerships with conventional and unconventional individuals and organizations including local businesses, faith communities, education institutions, public or nonprofit organizations, key community leaders
- Targeted media and/or social media campaigns
- Door-to-door outreach
- Events
Funding Information
They anticipate awarding approximately seven grants between $25,000 and $151,790 each.
Eligibility Criteria
- Nonprofit applicants must be a registered nonprofit organization and have an official letter of determination of tax exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service
- For-profit applicants, must have a Certificate of Filing with the Texas Office of the Secretary of State
- Be eligible to receive federal funds (including SAM.gov registration)
- Not be delinquent on any state or federal debt.
- Capable of complying with federal funding requirements.
- Accept the terms of the United Way Grant Agreement
- Have operated in Central Texas counties for at least one year (on or before January 1, 2022).
- Share United Way’s view of collaborative and inclusive service to the entire community, without excluding anyone on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, or any other factor not relevant to a person’s eligibility for service or ability to contribute.
