Types of Grant Funding Available
There are 3 sources of grant funding available. A single application will be submitted and the County will determine what source of funding best fits your application. Some categories of funding require a recipient match. In addition to the following specific criteria, all projects must serve a public purpose and benefit the community as a whole.
- WCIND
- Funding for public navigation channels, boating access facilities, waterfront parks, and piers; as well as, marine and environmental education and safety programs. Projects are categorized into 5 groups; marine law enforcement (funded 100%), navigation improvement (funded 100%), environmental education (funded 100%), boater safety/education (50% match required), and boater recreation (50% match required). WCIND funding may not be used for general operations and maintenance.
- Boater Improvement-State
- Recreational channel marking and other uniform waterway markers, public boat ramps, lifts and hoists, marine railways, public launching facilities, removal of derelict vessels, hazardous floating structures. (funded 100%)
- Boater Improvement-Local
- Patrol, regulation, and maintenance of the lakes, rivers, and waters, as well as, other boating-related activities. (Up to 100% funding available)
Funding Information
Agencies awarded grant funds will be required to provide quarterly reports of project status. Law Enforcement agencies may have additional reporting requirements. Additionally, agencies awarded funds for equipment, goods, or services exceeding $5,000 in value will be required to provide Charlotte County:
- No less than 3 written bids for approval prior to purchase. If an item or service is determined by the recipient to be available from only one vendor, the recipient may request, in writing, a “sole-source” purchase authorization from Charlotte County.
- An annual report of any equipment’s current use and value until the asset value falls below $5,000.
- A formal request for disposition of equipment if it is no longer used for the purpose grant funds were awarded
Grant Period
This is a cost reimbursement program for projects that will be completed within one fiscal year; which is from October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2023.
Eligibility Criteria
Charlotte County government agencies and local not-for-profit organizations may apply for these funds.
