The Alaska Community Foundation is seeking applications for its Social Justice Fund to support organizations and projects that seek to eradicate systematic discrimination, increase the power of disenfranchised and under-resourced communities, and promote equal rights and equitable opportunities for all.

The Alaska Community Foundation (ACF) is proud to be the steward of the Social Justice Fund, which was generously founded by Jonathan B. Rubini and Clare Bertucio in 2015 to run through 2025.

Priority will be given to organizations that:

  • Address root causes in addition to reducing harm and relieving the symptoms of systemic issues.
  • Show a commitment to lasting, fundamental mindset shifts in relation to social justice issues.
  • Serve communities outside the Anchorage bowl and are located in the communities they serve.

Funding Information

Project support requests may be up to $15,000 per organization with a project period between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024. General operating grants will be $10,000.

Eligibility Criteria

Your organization is eligible for funding through this grant opportunity if it is one of the following:

  • Organizations with an annual budget of less than $500,000 (semi-independent projects that are fiscally sponsored by a larger organization are also eligible to apply, please contact us if you are curious about this kind of eligibility)
  • 501(c)3 public charitable organizations with 509(a)(1), 509(a)(2), or 509(a)(3) public charitable status as designated in your IRS Determination letter
  • Faith-based organization providing social services
  • Federally recognized Tribes or Tribal nonprofit organizations
  • City governments or Boroughs

The following are not eligible for grant funding

  • Organizations with an annual budget of more than $500,000.
  • Individuals
  • State or federal government agencies
  • For-profit organizations or businesses
  • Private nonprofit organizations (those not identified in their IRS determination letter as 509(a)(1), 509(a)(2), or 509(a)(3)
  • Requests for support that do not fall within the funding guidelines outlined above.
  • Activities that improperly discriminate as to race, gender, marital status, sexual preference, age, disability, creed or ethnicity, or grants for religious indoctrination or other religious activities.
  • Activities that promote hateful activities or promote violence.
