Apply Now for Fellowship For Indigenous Women in Tech

Dated: February 9, 2023

The Fellowship For Indigenous Women in Tech aims to increase the number of Indigenous women earning computing degrees in the US by 20% and pave the way to careers in tech for this vastly underrepresented population.

Donor Name: Last Mile Education Fund

State: All States

County: All Counties

Type of Grant: Fellowship

Deadline: 02/20/2023

Size of the Grant: Up to $10,000

Details:

Indigenous women (Native American, Alaskan Native, and Pacific Islanders) are among the most underrepresented populations of tech graduates, with only 104 Indigenous women (Native American, Alaskan Native and Pacific Islanders) receiving degrees in computer science in 2021 according to National Center for Education Statistics data.

The Last Mile Education Fund invests in degree completion for low-income undergraduate women pursuing Bachelor’s degrees in computing fields within four semesters of graduation. This fellowship is specifically for women students who are Native American, Alaskan Native and Pacific Islanders and pursuing a bachelors degree in a computing field.

This Fellowship goes beyond one-off scholarships and grants, providing Indigenous students with sustained funding to afford the opportunity to focus on their studies, graduate sooner, and launch their technical careers earlier. The grants help to cover gaps in tuition, monthly living expenses, textbooks, supplies and devices, as well as provide individualized support for career prep and the job search. Additionally, grantees receive the support and community of a cohort of peers pursuing parallel paths. The amount of funding will be based on need and disbursed over a 2-year time period.

What does it mean to be a Fellow of the Fellowship For Indigenous Women in Tech?

  • Relief from financial stress
  • Joining a peer cohort of Indigenous women in computing-related majors
  • Gaining access to support resources to launch a career in technology
  • Sustained support to finish a degree in a computing-related field
  • Support to meet the benchmarks required for getting hired in tech or progressing to graduate school in computing
