State: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont

County: Selected Counties

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 11/04/2022

Size of the Grant: $10,000

Details:

Launched in 2020, the New England Farmer Microgrants Program (NEFMP) provides direct financial support to farmers across New England. The program seeks to address some of the key barriers faced by farmers in the region: access to farmland, farm succession/transfer planning, and the adoption of regenerative farming practices.

New for the 2023 grant cycle, NEFMP will consist of two separate funding opportunities. Most funds will be awarded as $10,000 grants through the Western New England Regenerative Livestock Farming conservation partnership project, aimed at livestock producers in select counties. A smaller number of awards will be granted through the Farmland Access, Succession, and Transfer Support funding opportunity, in amounts of $5,000 each, for farmers anywhere in New England.

Funding Categories

  • Western New England Regenerative Livestock Farming Grants
    • The Western New England Regenerative Livestock Farming funding opportunity provides grants to livestock producers in select counties in CT, MA, NH, and VT for projects that improve soil health through the adoption of regenerative agricultural practices.
    • Priority: Livestock farmers in specific counties seeking to implement practices for improved soil health.
  • Farmland Access, Succession, and Transfer Support Grants
    • The Farmland Access, Succession, and Transfer Support provides grants to farmers anywhere in New England for projects that facilitate farmland access, succession, or transfer.
    • Some examples of eligible projects include: farmland purchase or leasing transaction costs, consultant and attorney fees, surveys, appraisals, agriculture conservation easement fees.
