Now in its seventh year, The Big Tell is coordinated by the Community Media Access Collaborative (CMAC), an organization committed to empowering voices in community to share their stories using media.
The contest supports local filmmakers while shaping the narrative of their region by highlighting the history, culture, resilience, and pride.
Funding Information
This year, Community Media Access Collaborative will award 26 grants of $8,000 each for the creation of short films about the amazing people, places, and activities that make the Central Valley so remarkable.
Contest Period
Winners will have three months to complete their short film.
Eligibility Criteria
- Film concepts must represent at least one of these six counties: Merced, Mariposa, Madera, Fresno, Tulare, and Kings. At least one film concept from each county will be included in the final selections
- The Big Tell is open to student, amateur, recreational, and professional filmmakers. Women, people of color, and people who identify as members of minority or underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply
- They will select films that, together, represent diverse subject matter including art, music, tradition, history, culture, technology, education, hope, determination, innovation, industry, or community
- The applicant must be the lead filmmaker or head of the project team. Only the applicant will be recognized as the filmmaker of record in marketing and promotional materials.
