Call for Artists for Voices for Change (New York)

Dated: July 22, 2022

ArtsWestchester has announced the Voices for Change, a unique artist grant opportunity designed to promote social awareness through the arts.

Donor Name: ArtsWestchester

State: New York

County: Selected Counties

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 10/21/2022

Size of the Grant: $5,000 or $10,000

Details:

A central principle of Grant program is the advancement of inclusiveness, equity, and accessibility in community; they believe that art has the power to illuminate complex issues, encourage civic discourse and open the community to new ways of thinking. Voices for Change provides the creative community with an opportunity to develop and present new work that inspires and informs, and may be a catalyst for action. Different funding levels will be available and competitive projects will identify an organizational partner to work with.

Artists and artist collectives working in the Mid-Hudson Valley region are invited to submit proposals. Applicants will submit projects that include a collaborative component with a cultural, service, or community-based organization.

The grant program seeks to support artists in creating new work through authentic community engagement that can lead to impact/change. Applicants are strongly encouraged to develop projects in collaboration with a Voices for Change Partner organization. Scoring priority will be given to projects that can clearly articulate a thoughtful partnership with a community organization.

Funding Information

ArtsWestchester will award multiple grants in $5,000 and $10,000 increments through a competitive selection process.

Eligibility Criteria

  • This opportunity is open to individual artists and artist collectives who live or maintain a studio/creative work space in the Mid-Hudson Valley region: Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster or Westchester counties. They encourage projects from a wide range of artistic disciplines. All proposals must come with a letter of support from a non-profit institution.
  • Artists who have previously received funding through one of ArtsWestchester’s grant programs are eligible to apply, but must submit a new and not previously-funded project.

Guidelines

  • ArtsWestchester’s Voices for Change grant program supports the creation and presentation of new work by Mid-Hudson Valley Region individual artists and artist collectives. They seek proposals that reflect a broad range of creative voices and art forms, ranging from an expression of ethnic/folk traditions to contemporary and experimental forms.
  • Voices for Change seeks to support visionary work that encourages deep thinking about complex societal issues. Projects must reflect significant understanding and analysis of the topic presented. Proposals should consider what communities are affected by these issues and how they play a role in the project itself. Projects may address, but are not limited to, the following categories:

  • Civil Rights
  • Criminal Justice
