The City of Garden Grove is offering home rehabilitation grants up to $5,000 to address Municipal Code violations, substandard living conditions, and necessary health & safety improvements to your home. Acceptable exterior and interior home repairs include, but are not limited to, window replacement, electrical repairs, pest control, interior and exterior painting, plumbing repairs, heater replacement (HVAC), handicap accessibility modifications, and repairs to address building or safety code violations in the home.
Major home repairs that are beyond the grant amount will not be considered. Garden Grove homeowners who are pre-qualified for the grant will be placed in a lottery style drawing, where City Staff will randomly choose applicants to move forward to the income verification stage.
Funding will be awarded to approximately 10 eligible applicants who are selected through a blind raffle.
Funding Information
The homeowner must contribute a minimum of $500 towards the project. Home repairs that exceed $5,000 will not be considered.
Eligible Activities
Repairs can include the following:
- Exterior painting
- Window replacement
- Electrical
- Plumbing
- Heating (HVAC)
- Handicap accessibility (Wheelchair ramp, grab bars, walk-in shower, etc.)
Eligibility Criteria
- Annual household income must be at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI), as determined by the State and seen in the table to the left.
- All members of the household over the age of 18 must submit income verification documentation as part of the application process.
- Applicant’s home must be in the city of Garden Grove and owner-occupied.
- Prior grant recipients must wait 5 years to re-apply.
- Homeowner must contribute a minimum of $500 of their own funds towards the project.
