Expand Massachusetts Stories- Advancing Equity Track Grant

Dated: February 10, 2022

Applicants for Expand Massachusetts Stories Grants whose projects are led by people from historically excluded communities, and whose organizations meet additional criteria, can apply to participate in the Advancing Equity Track.

Donor Name: Mass Humanities

State: Massachusetts

County: All Counties

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline (mm/dd/yyyy): 04/11/2022

Size of the Grant: $20,000

Details:

Expand Massachusetts Stories applicants whose projects are led by people from historically excluded communities, and whose organizations meet additional criteria, will have the opportunity to be part of the Advancing Equity Track.

Proposals from applicants in the Advancing Equity Track will be reviewed and recommended as their own track within the Expand Massachusetts Stories grant line. Mass Humanities will select up to 15 applicants into the track.

Projects that surface or share the people’s stories, especially stories of historically excluded communities, take time and care to prepare. For small organizations, and projects led by people from under-resourced communities, the time it takes to prepare a project and application is a significant investment. Through the track, Mass Humanities will honor that investment in time with application support and a commitment to fund Advancing Equity Track projects that meet Mass Humanities criteria.

What is the benefit of the track?

Applicants in the track have their projects pre-recommended for funding approval when they work with a Mass Humanities program officer and humanities experts to prepare their application. Track participants will:

  • Receive direct feedback on their LOI from a committee of MH Program Officers and outside experts.
  • Meet one on one with a Mass Humanities Program Officer to support LOI feedback for needs such as: finding humanities advisors, meeting Mass Humanities criteria for humanities projects, project planning and design, connecting with potential partners and completing other application requirements.
  • Submit and receive feedback on a completed draft application from MH Program Officers and outside experts.
  • Meet one on one with a Mass Humanities Program Officer for draft application feedback.
  • Receive a final application pre-check and expert recommendation to the Advancing Equity Review Committee.

Grant Amount

Up to $20,000.

Criteria

  • 501(c)(3) non-profits, fiscally-sponsored associations or filmmakers, state or federally recognized tribes, or non-federal government organizations are welcome to apply.
  • The applicant organization has an annual operating budget of $300,000 or less.
  • The applicant organization has 2 or fewer full time equivalent staff.
