Details:

The Hennepin Planning Grants Program goals are to:

  • Improve community resilience to climate change by adopting mitigation and/or adaptation strategies
  • Transition single-use, auto-oriented areas to compact redevelopment patterns, integrating a mix of uses in a walkable environment
  • Expand economic opportunities
  • Expand housing choices
  • Improve connectivity among jobs, housing, and services via transit, walking, rolling, biking
  • Promote equitable development, community wealth building, and economic inclusion

Priorities

Hennepin County Planning Grants help cities plan for a vibrant future, shape land-use patterns, and guide private investment to best achieve community goals. Hennepin County seeks planning projects that address county priorities, including:

  • Compact, efficient land use that promotes walking, biking, and transit use
  • Economic growth increased prosperity and economic inclusion
  • Climate change mitigation and climate resilience
  • Reducing disparities in housing, transportation, and access to destinations

Funding Information

  • The total available is approximately $100,000.
  • The maximum award per project is $50,000
  • A monetary (not in-kind) match is expected, based on population under the local authority’s jurisdiction:
    • 50% match if population more than 40,000
    • 25% match if population more than 15,000
    • 10% match if population more than 5,000
    • 0% match if population less than 5,000

Grant Period

Funds must be used within 24 months.

  • Small area, master, or station area plans
  • Area redevelopment and market feasibility studies
  • Public realm concept plans
  • Bicycle and pedestrian network
  • Other analyses or plans
  • District energy or stormwater management plans

Eligibility Criteria

Municipal governments, park districts, watershed districts, and other public agencies within Hennepin County.
