Model Community Engagement Grants for BIPOC-led Nonprofit Organizations (Texas)

Dated: August 21, 2023

United Way for Greater Austin seeks to award BIPOC-led nonprofit organizations to support their capacity to engage in coalition efforts such as Model Community and others.

Donor Name: United Way for Greater Austin

State: Texas

County:  Travis County (TX)

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline: 08/30/2023

Size of the Grant: $10,000

Grant Duration: 1 year

Details:

Local policies, systems, and resource limitations make it difficult for people and groups in Austin/Travis County to work together in a coordinated and supportive manner to meet the essential needs of community. As a result, neighbors in need are often overlooked, trust is eroded, and there is no consistent and predictable path to receiving care. This perpetuates racial and health disparities.

Model Community is a person-centered, community-led effort to co-create a multi-sector ecosystem, including data and technology tools, that helps persons, organizations, and the broader community transform systems of care to address racial and health disparities and improve outcomes.

Model Community recognizes that there have been historic and ongoing barriers and inequities for organizations led by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. As a commitment to redressing the racial and health disparities that exist in funding landscape, Model Community is offering six BIPOC-led organizations to support their capacity to engage in coalition efforts like Model Community and others.

Model Community recognizes that there have been historic and ongoing barriers and inequities for organizations led by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. As a commitment to redressing the racial and health disparities that exist in funding landscape, Model Community is offering six BIPOC-led organizations $10,000 each to support their capacity to engage in coalition efforts like Model Community and others.

Strategies

Through asset mapping led by the community, the backbone team identified three strategies that act as a guide to convening and creating equitable spaces.

  • Capacity Building and Strategic Equitable Investment
  • Shared Learning and Evaluation
  • Community Mobilization and Advocacy

This Engagement Grant opportunity falls under the first strategy of Capacity Building and Strategic Equitable Investment.

United Way anticipates investing a total of $60,000 in this work through this open application process. It anticipates awarding approximately six grants at $10,000 each.
