There are pivotal moments in life when many people do not have access to resources that will enable them to reach their potential. To improve opportunities at these moments, our Foundation focuses on:

  • Early Childhood
    • Activities supporting early childhood education and family literacy
  • Primary and Middle School Years
    • Programs that improve grade-level reading proficiency by fourth grade and provide quality out-of-schooltime activities
  • Post-secondary Success
    • Programs enhancing post-secondary opportunities such as college readiness and vocational education

For example, they support the following proven approaches:

  • Early childhood education (quality child-care and pre-school programs, parent education)
  • Social/emotional learning
  • Teacher training and support for effective teaching
  • Libraries (key educational resources in their communities)
  • Non-traditional secondary education and vocational training
  • Programs that support the journey to post-secondary success (tutoring, mentoring, enriched after-school and summer learning opportunities, college access programs, college persistence programs)

Funding Information

Grants typically are made in a range of $10,000 to $25,000. The Foundation occasionally awards multi-year grants.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The Donley Foundation makes grants to organizations that are tax-exempt under the Internal Revenue Code Sec. 501(c)(3) as well as public charities under Internal Revenue Code Sec. 509(a).
  • The Donley Foundation supports organizations in the following communities:
    • The Upper Connecticut River Valley of Vermont and New Hampshire
    • Vermont: Essex, Caledonia, Orange, Windsor, and Windham counties
    • New Hampshire: Coos, Grafton, Sullivan, and Cheshire counties
    • Greater York County, Pennsylvania
  • The communities of Western Cook County, Illinois, including neighborhoods on Chicago’s West Side
  • Grants are made for general operating support and project or program support. Grants are not made to individuals, nor are they made for religious or political purposes.
  • Grant recipients must submit a Grant Report within one year of the receipt of the grant payment.
