The awards program honors commercial construction projects completed during the calendar year of 2022 that reflect professional excellence in the areas of architecture, design, engineering, and development; that represent significant economic impact through capital investment, job creation, and long-lasting revitalization; and positively impact the city through community vision, sustainability, and beautification. Building Memphis honors the project’s major players, including owners/developers, engineers, architects/designers, contractors, and financial lenders.

  • Community impact (Amount of investment, jobs created, potential positive impact on surrounding area, etc.)

  • Before and after comparison
  • Opening date

Best New Construction

  • What makes the project stand out?
  • Description of design elements (Be specific about decisions made and reasons behind them)
  • Community impact (Amount of investment, jobs created, potential positive impact on surrounding area, etc.)
  • Difficulties encountered in completing project (Such as government approvals, zoning, site prep, etc.)
  • Financing (Public/private/mix)
  • Opening date

Eligibility Requirements

  • Memphis Business Journal is proud to launch the eleventh annual Building Memphis Awards.
  • The Building Memphis Awards recognizes those new construction and renovation projects that exhibit professional excellence in the areas of architecture, design, engineering, development and construction, and have created a community impact in the areas of investment, jobs created and potential impact on a surrounding neighborhood.
  • Commercial real estate projects — industrial, office, retail, hotel and multifamily — are eligible to compete in this program. Projects should have been completed or substantially completed in calendar year 2022. Nominations should include names of the people and firms involved in a particular project in addition to criteria listed for each category.
