Youth Development Grant Program – Massachusetts

Dated: November 29, 2021

The Brookline Youth Fund, which supports Brookline’s youth and youth-related activities through the Youth Development Grant Program, is the Brookline Community Foundation’s largest endowed, donor-advised fund.

Donor Name: Brookline Community Foundation

State: Massachusetts

Town: Brookline

Type of Grant: Grant

Type of Entity: Community Organizations and Groups

Deadline (mm/dd/yyyy): 01/31/2022

Grant Duration: 1 year

Details:

The Youth Development Grant Program aims to ensure equal access to opportunities for all youth in Brookline, and support and enhance the well-being of youth and their families.

The Youth Development Grant Program seeks to promote activities that are inclusive and represent the diversity within the Brookline community, with a focus on Brookline youth whose families earn less than the town’s median annual income, or are underserved.

Examples of the types of youth-related activities that may be considered for funding include:

  • Programs that fill programmatic gaps, particularly for middle school aged youth and youth from low-income families
  • Programs that develop youth leadership and/or create job and internship opportunities
  • Programs focusing on arts and culture, environmental education, or health and fitness
  • Programs that support early childhood education
  • Programs that help ensure the basic needs of Brookline’s youth are being met
  • Programs that address the opportunity gap exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Programs that support the social, emotional and mental health needs of Brookline youth

Priority Considerations

In alignment with organizational vision and grantmaking goals, as the Foundation reviews proposals, they will give preference to community organizations and groups that are working to ensure Brookline is inclusive and equitable for all, organizations that are led by BIPOC, and/or efforts that focus on BIPOC and other vulnerable populations.

Grant structure: the Foundation will consider one-year requests for project support.

Eligible Organizations and Programs

  • Grants shall be made to or through tax-exempt organizations that meet the requirements of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code, as well as to governmental bodies and agencies serving the Town. Town Departments, Committees, and Commissions seeking funding should review BCF’s Town Guidelines before submitting an application. Faith-based organizations are eligible to apply for projects assisting the wider community and if their project does not include the promotion of religious beliefs. If an organization or project is not tax-exempt, an application may be submitted through an organization that has agreed to serve as a fiscal sponsor. If needed, BCF can assist applicants in identifying an appropriate fiscal sponsor.
  • To be eligible, an organization or group must be operated and organized so that it does not discriminate in the hiring of staff or provision of services on the basis of race, religion, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, age, national origin, or disability. They define the Brookline community as those who live, work or go to school in Brookline.
  • Please note: Organizations that are currently funded through other BCF grant programs are eligible to apply.
  • The Brookline Community Foundation does not provide grants for travel or to individuals.
