Purpose of the Program Jefferson County is providing a cost-share opportunity for landowners to help control mountain pine beetle (Dendroctonus ponderosae) (MPB) on privately owned lands within Jefferson County. The funding for this pilot program is being made available for removal and of green pine trees infested with live mountain pine beetle including treating by solar, debarking, chipping, or mastication. Trees that died in prior seasons are not eligible.
- The MPB Landowner Assistance Program is meant to help reduce the spread of mountain pine beetle in Jefferson County. Landowners can help support this regional effort to protect private and public forested lands by controlling the beetle.
- MPB is required to be controlled within Jefferson County. This program supports landowners’ efforts to voluntarily comply with the requirement.
Funding Information
Up to 50% reimbursement for eligible mitigation work done by a contractor with a maximum annual amount of $7,500.
Eligibility Criteria
- Treated property must be privately owned and wholly within Jefferson County. Priority for cost-share funding will be for owners of property of 39 acres or less.
- Applications must be made by the owner of record or their designated representative. If a designated representative is submitting the application they will need to include a letter from the owner. Only one application per owner will be considered.
- Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis in the order they are received.
- No reimbursements will be made for work performed before an application is approved. Allow three (3) weeks for a response. A site visit by JCISM staff is required before an application can be approved.

- The property boundaries, access points, roads, structures, etc.
- The individual tree or small groups of trees that will be treated. When showing groups of trees include the number of trees in the group
- The map must show enough detail to allow the inspector to easily locate and verify the condition and number of trees included in the application

- This pilot program is designed to mitigate trees with live stages of the beetle to help reduce their spread. Funding is limited and they are unable to offer support for other methods of control at this time.
