The goal of the grant-making strategy for this fund is to strengthen ecosystem resilience, public interest, and awareness of the Honouliuli Preserve.
This funding opportunity is intended to support organizations on O’ahu who are implementing programs and activities linked to ecosystem restoration, research, promotion, education, and community engagement for the protection and management of the Honouliuli Preserve. Priorities for action include:
- Promoting community and public interest and engagement in use and restoration activities for the Preserve.
- Educating community and the public on the ecological and socio-cultural values of the Preserve
- Supporting ongoing ecosystem management activities, including mitigation of the Preserve’s vulnerability to invasive species and wildfires.
- Reconnecting community and individuals who may have lineal connections to the Honouliuli Preserve.
- Strengthening understanding of and support for agricultural and other uses and access issues.
Objectives
Objectives include:
- Mitigate the introduction and spread of invasive species.
- Mitigate the Preserve’s vulnerability to wildfires.
- Increase access and strengthen community interest and engagement in managing the Preserve and awareness about its ecological and socio-cultural value.
Grant Focus
The activities HCF will consider for funding include:
- Strategic planning to support management activities for the Preserve;
- Staff recruitment and retention;
- Strengthening access to the Preserve;
- Research and monitoring;
- Ecosystem restoration;
- Community engagement; and
- Education.
Funding Information
Grant requests for up to $15,000 USD will be considered. Funding decisions will be made in July 2025.
Grant Period
Grant requests for projects with a duration of 12-24 months (2 years maximum) will be considered.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be a non-profit organization with a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. Organizations who do not have 501(c)(3) status may collaborate with a fiscal sponsor to apply for this funding opportunity.
- This funding opportunity is open to non-profit and community-based organizations on O’ahu.
- Special consideration will be given to applicants from community organizations in the Honouliuli Preserve adjacent areas.
