The Building CBO Capacity to Evaluate Veteran Suicide Prevention Programs (VSPE) is designed to provide veteran serving organizations (VSOs) or nonprofits working to serve the veteran community access to intensive evaluation technical assistance from the CDC Foundation and subject matter expertise about the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Suicide Prevention Resource for Action (Prevention Resource).

Specifically, this grant will provide funding to build evaluation capacity for an approved suicide prevention program. This competitive grant program will strengthen the evaluation capacity of organizations, improving their ability to implement data-informed prevention strategies and add to the evidence-based approaches for suicide prevention.
Funding Information
This RFP will award up to two (2) VSOs for up to $72,000 per award. This is a cost reimbursable award.
Grant Period
The expected period of performance is April 1, 2025, through July 31, 2025.
Eligibility Criteria
All applicants must:
- Be a non-profit tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) or 501 (c)19.
- Must be in existence for a minimum of at least (2) two years.
- Organization must have a primary focus on provision of direct services or programming to veteran and military communities.
- Have established relationships with veteran populations.
- Be headquartered in the United States or territories.
- Have a Unique Entity ID (UEI) issued by SAM.gov (see Get Started with Registration and the Unique Entity ID for additional information on obtaining a UEI).
- Be in good financial standing and have sustainable operations.

- Must be able to allocate approximately 15 to 20 hours a week of staff time to support the evaluation activities of this project. Staff time can consist of multiple roles but must be listed in this proposal as part of the project team and have relevant data collection and analysis or suicide prevention experience. Allocated hours should be reflected in the submitted budget.
- Must propose to develop and implement either a process or formative evaluation related to approved programming from the Prevention Resource.
- Must provide a letter of commitment from organizational leadership.
