Details:

The Good Neighbor Authority (GNA) is intended to facilitate partnerships with states, counties, and federally recognized Indian tribes to plan and implement forest, rangeland, and watershed restoration projects. The GNA authority specifically authorizes treating insect-and diseaseinfested trees; reducing hazardous fuels; any other activities to restore or improve forest, rangeland, and watershed health, including fish and wildlife habitat. GNA applies to Federal land, non-Federal land, and land owned by an Indian tribe.

This BLM Alaska program also supports the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) Public Law 117-58, Section 40804(b) Ecosystem Restoration with funding limited to States and Indian tribes to conduct treatment on Federal lands.

Priority activities under this announcement include Authorized Restoration Services which include:

  • Treatment of insect and disease infected trees,
  • Hazardous fuels reduction, or
  • Any activity to restore or improve forest, rangeland, and watershed health, including fish and wildlife habitat.

Program Strategic Goals: 

  • Restoring landscape connectivity and function.
  • Conserving and restoring lands to combat climate change.
  • Improving water resources.
  • Restoring legacy disturbances.

Funding Information

  • Estimated Total Funding: $2,260,000
  • Maximum Award: $800,000
  • Minimum Award: $5,000

Grant Period

Projects cannot be funded for more than a five-year period.

  • Native American tribal governments (Federally recognized)
  • City or township governments
  • Nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
  • Independent school districts
  • County governments
  • Public housing authorities/Indian housing authorities
  • Public and State controlled institutions of higher education
  • Native American tribal organizations (other than Federally recognized tribal governments)
  • Nonprofits that do not have a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
  • State governments
  • Special district governments
  • Private institutions of higher education
