Through the Early Investment grantmaking strategy, emerging grassroots organizations (typically with budgets of less than $2M) can receive general operating support for up to five years along with additional funding to strengthen the leadership of women and gender-expansive people and build organizational resilience, viability, and program effectiveness.
Grant Priorities
The Foundation centers the needs of women and gender expansive people in historically marginalized and under-invested communities in New York City who face the largest disparities in health, safety, and economic security. As such, they are focusing the grantmaking on the following communities:
- Transgender women and girls, gender nonconforming, and gender nonbinary people
- Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer individuals
- Girls, young women, and gender-expansive youth
- People with disabilities
- Survivors and criminalized survivors of gender-based violence and intimate partner violence
- Women and gender-expansive people affected by poverty
- Unhoused individuals
- System-impacted women and gender-expansive people, including formerly incarcerated
- Individuals working in the sex trades
- Pregnant and birthing people
- Older adults
- Organizations based on and serving Staten Island.

Eligibility Criteria
In this grant cycle, The New York Women’s Foundation is accepting proposals from:
- Organizations not previously funded in the Early Investment strategy by The New York
- Women’s Foundation that meet the following criteria:
- Are a registered 501(c)3 or have a 501(c)3 fiscal sponsor
- Located within and operating within the five boroughs of New York City
- Have been in existence for at least six months.
