The Indianapolis African American Quality of Life Initiative (IAAQLI) is offering a grant opportunity focused on building and strengthening Black leadership and nonprofit infrastructure in Indianapolis. With a total fund of $2.5 million, individual projects can request up to $250,000 to support initiatives that foster Black leadership, mentorship, and civic engagement across generations.
This grant is designed to expand the pipeline of Black leaders by supporting programs that provide comprehensive leadership development, mentorship, and civic engagement opportunities. Special priority will be given to initiatives that involve youth, young adults, and mid-career professionals in sustainable and coordinated leadership pathways.
Applicants are encouraged to align proposals with strategic priorities such as strengthening Black philanthropic institutions, building leadership and administrative capacity, expanding philanthropic education, and developing workforce pathways in philanthropy. These initiatives aim to promote racial equity and create a sustainable, community-driven philanthropic ecosystem in Marion County.
Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) public charities, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, healthcare providers, and community-based organizations. Preference will be given to African American-led entities that serve African American communities in Marion County, Indiana.
Collaborative applications are welcome. Proposals submitted by partnerships must include letters of support that describe each partner’s role, expertise, and specific contributions. While collaborators are not required to be Black-led or not-for-profit, preference is given to those based in Indiana, especially Indianapolis.
Applicants should include a clear plan for tracking progress and outcomes. Proposals that show structured evaluation methods and cross-sector collaboration will be prioritized. The deadline to apply for this grant is August 11, 2025.
