Total amount available: $250,000 per Fiscal Year.
Grant Period
The term of the grant period will be the summer months of 2024 and 2025. The grant period will be no earlier than June 1, 2024, through no later than August 30, 2025. Programming cannot take place prior to the ending of the core school year or the start of the core school year.
Required Activities
This grant program supports school districts in paying for AFNR teachers to provide coursework in approved CTE AFNR programs during the summer, outside of the core school year. Required activities include:
- Grant recipients must use the funding, consistent with the application, to provide specific secondary Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources Coursework Extended Time Programming in the summer(s) in FY24 and FY25.
- All opportunities will be credit-bearing and aligned with coursework within the AFNR Pathway Program.
- Programs must be secondary AFNR with licensed AFNR teachers, or AFNR-focused Work-Based Learning (appropriate endorsement).
- Programs must work with students. Activities that involve a teacher during the summer working without students (e.g., curriculum development, teacher professional development, teacher professional conferences) are not eligible.
Eligibility Criteria
This grant program is for Minnesota schools operated by any of the following:
- An application must be submitted from a district with an MDE approved agricultural, food, and natural resources (AFNR) education program.
- A district may offer an approved summer program to students at more than one high school site. In this example the AFNR summer program provided must be the same at each site.
