Details:

Understanding the COVID-19 pandemic induced both short term challenges, like shutdowns, as well as lasting impacts, such as inflation, labor shortages, and increased debt, for small business, the Town of Westborough is creating this grant opportunity to provide direct financial assistance to eligible businesses most negatively impacted by the crisis. In order to do this, the Westborough Select Board committed $65,000 in funding received through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) for the Community Development Department to distribute as grants to the most impacted local businesses. They are committed to helping local businesses recover from the unique economic challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Use of funds

Grant funds may be used for working capital or any operating expense, including:

  • Rent (or mortgage payments)
  • Utility payments
  • Payroll or employee benefits (including healthcare)
  • Insurance
  • Marketing (e.g., website improvements, advertising)
  • COVID-19 related expenses (e.g., PPE, H/VAC upgrades, outdoor dining)

Funding Information

Applicants may receive no more than $5,000 in grant funding through this program.

Eligibility Criteria

 To be eligible for a grant award through this program, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria: 

  • Applicant must be a for-profit business located in Westborough, MA 
  • Applicant must demonstrate the COVID-19 pandemic’s negative impacts to the business.
  •  Business must have fewer than 35 full-time employees on payroll (part-time employees shall be counted based on hours worked, where 35 hours is considered an FTE) 
  • Businesses must have less than $1,500,000 in annual revenue.
  • Business began operating in Westborough no later than January 1, 2020 
  • Business should be in good standing with the Town of Westborough and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (i.e., taxes and licenses) 
  • Applicants will enter into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Town to receive grant funds, should they be awarded.
