In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing neighborhood transitions, many community organizations have experienced decreased participation, weakened local networks, and difficulty mobilizing residents.
By supporting grassroots-led, community initiatives, they aim to:
- Reinvigorate civic engagement.
- Rebuild trust among neighbors.
- Strengthen the capacity of communities to lead their own transformation.
Community initiatives serve as a powerful tool to reactivate grassroots communities, bringing neighbors together to build connections, solve shared challenges, and support local leadership. These initiatives may include:
- Reactivating Civic Associations and Super Neighborhoods to strengthen local advocacy and leadership.
- Engaging residents in community decision-making through events and other participatory activities.
- Beautification and placemaking community initiatives that create pride and a sense of belonging in the neighborhood.
- Neighborhood-based initiatives that strengthen connections among residents and encourage sustained engagement.
