Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be of Greek descent or a student who has declared major(s) in Hellenic Studies (regardless of heritage)
- Undergraduate Scholarships require that in the following academic year, applicants must be a full time undergraduate student pursuing studies leading to a bachelor’s degree in an accredited four-year college, university, or professional school. This includes current undergraduate students who will not be graduating during the academic year and high school seniors applying to such schools.
- Graduate Scholarships require that in the next academic year, applicants must be enrolled in a full-time graduate program.
High school seniors and applicants to graduate schools can apply for scholarships even if at the time of application submission do not know which institution they will attend. Applicants are required to update us when they make their final decision. - According to Club’s bylaws and agreements with Donors, scholarships are available only to US citizens or green card holders. Holders of student visas are not eligible for scholarships.
- The applicant’s permanent address must be in one of the counties below:
Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton or Philadelphia Counties in Pennsylvania; Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Mercer, Monmouth, Ocean or Salem Counties in New Jersey; New Castle County in Delaware.
Only exception to the permanent address rule is for applicants of the Eleftheria scholarship which has no residency requirement.
Permanent address is the parents’ home for all undergraduate students.
Graduate students may elect to use their school address as their permanent address if they submit taxes on their own. - Prior recipients of Hellenic University Club Undergraduate Scholarships can only reapply for an Undergraduate Scholarship after three years. E.g. if an Undergraduate Scholarship was received in 2020, the applicant is eligible to reapply only in 2023 or later.
- Prior recipients of Hellenic University Club Graduate Scholarships can reapply for a Graduate Scholarship every other year but not the year after they received a graduate scholarship from the HUC. E.g., if a Graduate Scholarship was received in 2020 for the academic year 20-21, the applicant may apply again in 2022, if they are expected to be a graduate student in 2022-23.
- While the HUC Scholarship Committee welcomes repeat applicants, preference is generally given to first-time applicants in order to provide new opportunities for a diverse range of candidates. For prior recipients, the Committee carefully reviews updated applications that highlight relevant experiences and accomplishments since the previous HUC scholarship. They are particularly interested in understanding how the scholarship has influenced your academic journey, perspectives, and actions. Additionally, they look favorably upon leadership roles in Hellenic organizations and initiatives.
