The Palo Alto Public Art Program works extensively with local, regional and national artists to bring permanent and temporary artworks that build the visual identity and reflect the diverse and exciting environment of the City of Palo Alto.
The Cubberley Artist Studio Program (CASP) consists of:
- 20 individual and shared studios for long-term resident artists
- Two Rotating Artist Studios; designated space for short-term studio use (up to six months),
supporting emerging and visiting artists, intermittently practicing artists, and artists or teams
working on time-bound projects
Goals
- Create an artist community that fosters diverse and numerous opportunities for growth and collaboration in the creation of new work.
- Ensure the representation of a wide range of experience in terms of artistic disciplines, artistic development, as well as diverse cultural and aesthetic approaches.
- Create a dynamic and accessible cultural destination for the community, with economic value for the resident artists.
- Foster active engagement and visibility with the Palo Alto and surrounding communities.
- Continue to increase the prestigious and competitive reputation of the program. Ensure that the program is accessible, open, inclusive, equitable, and responsive to the artist community’s need for studio space.
Grant Period
January 1, 2027– December 31, 2029.
Eligibility Criteria
A selection panel comprised of arts professionals will review and select artists for available studio spaces in the Cubberley Artist Studio Program. Applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Demonstrated commitment to an ongoing art practice and/or potential for creative excellence
- Strength of exhibition history, reviews, and/or record of accomplishments as demonstrated in a resume or CV. Applicants without a resume may submit a written statement describing their artistic history and relevant experience
- For first-time applicants: demonstrated need for the program and the anticipated impact of the residency on their artistic development and/or career
- For incumbent CASP artists applying for a second term: demonstrated commitment to community engagement, active participation in the program, and alignment with CASP vision and goals
- Demonstrated ability and intention to comply with program requirements, as outlined in the guidelines, application materials, contract, and the Program Requirements for Participating CASP Artists.
