The Initiative Foundation offers two grant opportunities designed to strengthen nonprofits serving Central Minnesota. Together, these grants support both immediate, short-term stabilization and urgent response, and long-term organizational strengthening and sustainability.

Tracks

  • Track 1: Emerging Needs Grants
    • Emerging Needs Grants provide flexible, rapid-response funding for nonprofits facing an unexpected challenge, sudden funding loss, or urgent community need. These grants help organizations stabilize quickly, adapt services, and continue meeting essential needs across Central Minnesota.
      • General operating support, including staffing, rent, utilities and core services
      • Expanding or adapting services due to a crisis or sudden increase in demand
      • Addressing service gaps caused by funding cuts or unexpected events.
    • Priority Consideration
      • Emerging Needs Grants
        • Organizations experiencing a sudden, recent loss of state or federal funding
        • Organizations serving residents often left out of traditional funding, including rural communities, elders, veterans, people with disabilities, and culturally rooted or identity-based communities.
        • Organizations providing services in basic needs, economic programs, support for individuals impacted by crime or discrimination, and non-clinical mental health and substance use services
        • Organizations headquartered in and primarily serving the Initiative Foundation service region.
  • Track 2: Nonprofit Capacity Building Grants
    • Capacity Building Grants support strategic efforts that strengthen a nonprofit’s effectiveness and long-term sustainability. Capacity building focuses on long-term improvements rather than day-to-day service delivery.
    • Additional Considerations
      • Nonprofits that have engaged with Nonprofit Academy training within the last six months may receive priority consideration
      • The Initiative Foundation strives to achieve geographic equity in grantmaking across its service region
      • Priority consideration may be given to organizations with at least three years of continuous programming.
