The Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District (MPRPD) is an independent special district created by the voters of the Monterey Peninsula in 1972. The District’s mission is “to acquire and maintain open space in the District for preservation and use, working with partners and the community, for public benefit, enjoyment and environmental protection.”
MPRPD established the Transportation Grant Fund in 2023 to increase recreational, environmental and cultural education access to the Park District’s natural areas, open spaces, museums, working landscapes and cultural sites while supporting MPRPD’s mission and values to have accessible open space for education and recreation enjoyment and protection of natural and cultural resources, native habitat and wildlife. MPRPD’s parks and preserves include Garland Ranch Regional Park and Palo Corona Regional Park. The full list of sites is available at mprpd.org.
Funding Information
Transportation grants are expected to range between $500 and $2,000. Organizations may receive up to two grants per fiscal year (July 1 – June 30) for a maximum of $4,000 per year.
Eligibility Criteria
- Transportation grants are open to 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations, schools, school districts and public agencies based in and serving Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito County residents. Read more below under Exclusions.
- Activities must occur on MPRPD properties specifically supporting MPRPD’s mission and the Transportation Grant’s purpose.
- Businesses and individuals are not eligible, with the exception of social enterprises associated with a local nonprofit.
Guidelines
Transportation grants will be considered for transportation-related expenses for group visits or field trips to MPRPD’s park or preserve. The following organizations are invited to apply:
- School Districts
- Public
- Private
- Homeschool groups
- Public Agencies
- Nonprofit organizations (youth-serving organizations, faith-based organizations, associations, conservancies, etc.)
- Partnering and collaborative organizations, as authorized by MPRPD’s board through a memorandum of understanding or similar instrument.
