Youthprise Youth Board members are directing this emergency fund as Minnesota youth continue to face crisis after crisis. Investing in youth wellbeing, civic engagement, and economic opportunity is a proven strategy for strengthening community safety and improving crisis response.
Today, many young people and their families face ongoing pressure from rising housing costs, low wages, struggling small businesses, and rapidly shifting community needs. These challenges have been compounded by the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, Operation Metro Surge, and the murder of George Floyd—events that led to widespread school and business closures and long-term community disruption.
As a result, many youth are navigating overlapping challenges, including:
- Economic precarity
- Public hostility and political targeting
- Limited access to capital, networks, and institutional support
- Civic disengagement and mistrustImmigration-related disruptions
- Experiences of exclusion and being treated as “outsiders”
This fund supports three areas:
- Youth Civic Engagement
- Leadership development and civic education
- Youth-led advocacy and organizing
- Opportunities to participate in local decision-making
- Youth Economic Opportunity
- Employment and entrepreneurship pathways
- Financial support and wealth-building resources
- Access to capital, mentorship, and career networks
- Wellbeing, Safety & Crisis Response
- Youth-led outreach and trusted community messaging
- Peer-based stabilization and referral networks
