Details:
A capacity building program to strengthen and sustain nonprofit organizations by supporting volunteer programs and recognize and honor volunteers doing exemplary work in their communities. The Deutsch Foundation is inspired by angels in the community, both the volunteers who go above and beyond to promote the betterment of their communities and the nonprofit organizations whose work motivates and supports volunteers. It is the Foundation’s desire that the HALO Award will inspire nonprofits and philanthropy to invest in volunteer management.
The Foundation is honored to partner with organizations who mobilize volunteers to achieve their missions. As they continue the work to strengthen individuals, families, and communities through the support of effective organizations, the HALO Award program is committed to increasing equal access, and community empowerment.
Selected organizations receive a one-time HALO Award grant, which includes:

Capacity building support designed to enhance organizational capacity through volunteerism.

Support includes cross-organizational peer learning sessions with the cohort totaling approximately24 hours of guided activities and discussions, four one-on-one organizational coaching sessions, and development of a multi year volunteer management plan. Participation by at least two of the same representatives is required in all activities.

A $30,000 grant for the nonprofit to strengthen, implement, and sustain its volunteer program.

This grant underwrites implementation of strategies to build the capacity of organizations and sustainability of volunteer programs (e.g., increased outreach, improved systems, retention methods, volunteer mentors, volunteer coordinator, etc.). Deliverables to the Foundation include interim & final reports and a volunteer management plan.

A $5,000 award for the volunteer, distributed by the nominating nonprofit organization.

This award honors outstanding volunteers. Funds are used at the discretion of the volunteers.

Eligibility Criteria
- For HALO Award consideration, your organization must:
- Be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization or sponsored by a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
- Have a functioning volunteering program that meets the readiness criteria below
- Be in and serving Los Angeles County (i.e.; a local office for services elsewhere does not qualify)
- One volunteer nomination will be accepted per nonprofit organization. Volunteer nominees must be:
- Active and unpaid
- Not currently serving as a board member
