Types of Grants
The City of Charleston provides grant funding annually to community organizations through two programs:
- Community Assistance (CA) Grants
- Community Assistance Grants are to assist organizations that serve a “public purpose” to the Charleston Community. Public Purpose” is defined as having for its objective the “promotion of the public health, safety, morals, general welfare, security, prosperity, and contentment of all the inhabitants or residents, or at least a substantial part thereof.
- Accommodations Tax (A-Tax) Grants
- Accommodations Tax Grant funds are designated specifically for tourism-related activities, as required by South Carolina law. Data to support tourism impact is required.

- Church/religious organizations
- Government entities
- Must be registered with SC Secretary of State Division of Public Charities
- Individuals and for-profit businesses are not eligible.
