The Community Solutions Challenge (CSC), launched in 2021, advances health equity by supporting community based 501(c) organizations that address the social, cultural and linguistic needs of communities facing barriers to care and opportunity. To date, CSC has provided more than $3.7 million to over 160 local nonprofit programs working to reduce health disparities and expand opportunities in STEM.
The US ACT on Health Equity: Community Solutions Challenge (CSC) is advancing health equity through the support of community-based nonprofit programming that prioritizes the social, cultural and linguistic needs of communities that have experienced barriers to care and opportunity
Focus Areas
Community-based programs must cover one of the following areas:
- Nutrition and Food Security
- Address nutrition as a social determinant of health, including reducing food insecurity, providing comprehensive nutritional education, and improving access to food to improve health outcomes.
- Healthcare Access
- Improve access to quality healthcare by addressing barriers, including health education, and patient-centered support that helps individuals navigate and reach care.
- Education
- Enhance access to quality educational and career readiness opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics for underserved communities.
- Climate and Nature
- Addresses the interconnectedness of environmental and human health by reducing environmental impacts, improving air and water quality, expanding access to green spaces, and advancing nature-based solutions, with a focus on those disproportionately affected by environmental challenges and injustices.
Funding Information
Applicants may receive a one-time contribution of $30,000

Eligibility Criteria
501(C) organizations in 17 states and territories are invited to apply for funding to support programs focused within one or more communities. Funding is subject to local regulations. Consideration will only be given to the programs in the select states: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Texas, Virginia
Ineligibility
The Community Solutions Challenge will NOT fund:
- Capital investments and unsolicited capital campaigns
- Endowments
- For-profit organizations
- Fundraisers (e.g., events, galas)
- Healthcare provider salaries
- Hospitals or hospital foundations, even if they are a nonprofit
- Individuals
- Initiatives outside the United States or its territories
- Journals or advertising
- Media/production companies
- Medical treatments or provision of clinical services (i.e., healthcare activities delivered by licensed professionals to assess, diagnose, treat, or manage patient health conditions)
- Medical screenings
- Please note, clinical trial awareness raising and educational initiatives unrelated to AstraZeneca can be submitted
- Meetings or conferences
- Nonprofit organizations’ employee salaries or administrative costs
- Nonprofit organizations that discriminate based on age, race, color, religion, national origin, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital status, military service, veteran status, or disability
- Professional education and/or training for healthcare professionals
- Programs currently receiving funding from AstraZeneca
- Political causes, lobbying, fraternal or social organizations
- Religious organizations whose activities are not open to the general public
- Research or clinical trials
- Travel
